Rotorua city is located in the Bay of Plenty Region of New Zealand’s North Island. With a population of about 55,000 people, it is one of the most populous cities in the region. There are also many suburbs that, when taken collectively, form the Rotorua District. These suburbs, however, are not part of the city itself.

The city is located along the shores of Lake Rotorua and is surrounded by many other lakes. It is lies over a geothermal hotspot, which explains its abundant geothermal activity. It is also in the Taupo Volcanic Zone’s center. The geothermal activity in the city comes in the form of hot springs and geysers, two of the city’s main tourist attractions.

There are many things to see and visit in this city. In fact, it has earned the title New Zealand’s Most Beautiful City more than once (2002, 2006). This is due to its natural reserves and attractions, as well as its many well-preserved historic structures.

There are about 14 lakes in the city. These lakes are scattered within the city; the best lake of these 14 lakes is usually the one nearest to a tourist’s current location. Whakarewarewa Forest is another natural attraction that can provide both pleasure walkers and bikers a safe trip. Near this is the Whakarewarewa Thermal Village, a place with many swimming spots and geysers. Another place for hot springs and geysers is the Te Puia. Local dances and events are also often held here. As for an interactive experience with the village locals and animals, there are two outstanding spots: the Rainbow and Fairy Springs, and The Agrodome.

Because of the fertile soil in Rotorua, there are many botanical gardens and natural parks. One is the Government Gardens. Aside from its gardens, there are many golf courses and other entertainment facilities. The parks in Rotorua can easily be navigated through a map.
