Namosi: Travel Facts and Figures

The province of Namosi is located on the island of Viti Levu, the largest in the Fiji archipelago. It is one of the fourteen provinces in the country and is situated to the west of the capital city of Suva. The province spans 570 square kilometres and is home to 6,898 people as of the 2007 census. This makes it the smallest Fijian province in terms of population size.

Just like most provinces in Fiji, Namosi is currently undergoing infrastructure developments to attract more tourists into the country. The fact that it is closer to the capital makes it an upcoming travel destination. The province is already looking into generating its own hydroelectricity and has managed to enlist the support of the French government. The project is waiting for a go-signal from the National authorities.

Once the Hydro-electric project is underway, new businesses can potentially come up in Namosi. Having its own energy supply will allow the province to attract new investors and pave the way towards the development of the area as a new commercial and tourism centre.

Heading to the east of the province of Namosi, travellers will find the city of Suva, the capital of Fiji. The capital serves as the main tourism and commercial center in the island and the rest of the country, being home to a number of interesting attractions as well as modern services to suit the tourist. Around the city, tourists will find colonial style buildings that have been constructed at the turn of the 20th century. The most popular landmark is the Suva City Library. Other known attractions include the Fiji Museum at the Thurston Gardens and several open spaces around the city including Suva Point and Apted Park.
