A Visit to Nadroga-Navosa

The province of Nadroga-Navosa is located in the island of Viti Levu which is the largest of the Fiji islands. It is one of the fourteen provinces that make up the country and occupies the central and south western part of the island. The province also covers the Mamanuca group of islands which is located to the west of the island.

Nadroga-Navosa has a population of 58,387 as of the 2007 census. This makes it the fifth largest of all the Fiji provinces. Its main town is Sigatoka which, as of the last census, is home to 7,988 people.

The main town of Sigatoka in the province of Nadroga-Navosa lies along the Sigatoka River about 69 km from the neighboring town of Nadi. It is an interesting day trip destination for travelers going around the island of Viti Levu during their holiday.

It’s better to take a car or seek the assistance of a tour guide for navigating around the island because most of the natural attractions and tourist sites are quite remote. Within the town of Sigatoka, however, the most popular landmark will have to be an ornate mosque that is located downtown.

The Sigatoka Sand Dunes are also drawing a crowd of tourists into the province of Nadroga-Navosa. These sand dunes are located near the village of Kulukulu to the south of the town center.

Nature lovers will also enjoy a tour of the Kula Eco Park while in Nadroga-Navosa. The natural park is home to more than 100 species of birds that came from several tropical countries from all over the world. Because of these natural attractions, the province, and Sigatoka in particular, have become the center of the country’s tourism sector.
